This book is about a little boy at his grandmothers house. He is going to bead and he hears noises when the room is dark. his grandmother keeps brining him animals to sleep with to help him not get scared.

The story was great for a bedtime read aloud. I think it could be used in a curriculum as a lead into things we are scared of that have simple explanations. The illustrations were basic pen or pencil. ( )

This story has been retold in various languages and associated titles but connects the reader to an issue of importance for childhood development-the dark. Fears of the dark can be an issue in the classroom and at home and the depth of extended family's love and help to overcome fear is an asset in general. By using the grandmother persona/role as a focal point, many current students' families are identified in this book making this selection a good choice and highly beneficial. The elongated texts and use of vibrant color really sets this book apart.
