A tall witch, a round witch, a silly witch, too. Some are spooky, some are cute, and one wears go-go boots! They have gathered for their ball. Why not try to count them all?

"Late last night at Wild Witch Hall, / we witches held our Wild Witch Ball," begins this brief witchy picture-book, with a rhyming text from children's poet Jack Prelutsky (best known for such collections as The New Kid on the Block and A Pizza the Size of the Sun), and artwork from Kelly Asbury. Counting down from ten, the narrative lists the many witches present - ten tall crones, nine queer dears, and so on - concluding with an exuberant invitation to the reader, to find as many witches as she can.

The text of Wild Witches' Ball was originally a selection in Daisy Wallace's 1976 collection, Witch Poems, before being made into a separate picture-book in 2004. I'm not sure, all things considered, that this was a wise choice, as the poem itself is rather slight, and the artwork, which might otherwise have carried the book, doesn't really dazzle. I'm not surprised to see so few reviews for this one online, despite the popularity of the author. It's not that there's anything egregiously wrong with this selection, it's just that there isn't anything particularly memorable about it either. ( )

This book is the story of a wild witches ball. It explains what they do at the ball and how much fun witches have. The book has beautiful pictures and is great for Halloween time.

The book is about a witches ball that is coming up. Each page counts down the number from ten to one. It leads up to one big witch. The book is a good book for Halloween and teaching children about counting down. The book is colorful and creative.

I think this book was absolutely fabulous and would be a great read for halloween time. With the counting down from ten in the book, the children would have fun getting into it and it would be good for interaction. ( )

This story was about some witches that decided to have a get together and celebrate. The witches were different sizes. Some of the witches decided to play tag at the party. This story teaches children to enjoy playing at parties.
