I've watched the show twice before reading the book, so obv my review is gonna be a bit incluenced by that. I got the same feeling as when I was reading Game of Thrones after seeing the show, that the characters in the book get to be way more vile and ugly (Dennis in particular sticks out) compared to the book. Honestly I still think the show is great, and the book was also good. Some things worked better on screen (Maja's breakdown during the Funeral episode, easily one of the best scenes in the entire show), and some things worked better in the book (more believeable because in the show they definitely sacrificed some of that in favour of a good story, and you know what, I don't mind). But it's also a very good book. When I first saw the show I was convinced Maja was guilty, but after a rewatch and having read the book I guess she isn't. She is still extremely unlikeable though, but that's the point. She is judgemental and a bit of an asshole, and I never get the feeling reading the book that we're supposed to completely agree with her worldview. At least I hope not, because that's something I like about it. Not generally into crime books that aren't true crime but I guess I have to give the author's other book (books?) a chance now.

"QUICKSAND is an incisive courtroom thriller and a drama that raises questions about the nature of love, the disastrous side effects of guilt, and the function of justice. A mass shooting has taken place at a prep school in Stockholm's wealthiest suburb. Maja Norberg is eighteen years old and on trial for her involvement in the massacre where her boyfriend and best friend were killed. When the novel opens, Maja has spent nine excruciating months in jail awaiting trial. Now the time has come for her to enter the courtroom. But how did Maja, the good girl next door who was popular and excelled at school, become the most hated teenager in the country? What did Maja do? Or is it what she didn't do that brought her here?"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
