This book, surprisingly was one of the reading highlights of this year. The first half of the book was more a biography and introduction to the Talions, specifically the main character's background, which included side quests etc. I must confess I did start to wonder towards the middle of the book, whether there was going to be a bigger goal/plot, or if the book was going to remain a study of the Talion's life through descriptions of minor quests, but in the middle of the book the bigger quest became clear and as the book progressed from there, it made sense as to why the author gave such an extensive background to the Talions. All in all the last half of the book really picked up the pace (not that the pace were slow in the first half) and the conclusion was really exciting. I really enjoyed this book. ( ) It's hard to imagine that this was the author's first fantasy book - it has every making of an epic and introduces the reader to a beautiful, sweeping fantasy world with a tapestry of nations, history and characters. The heroes are larger than life, and you are treated to a tale of a boy maturing into a man, weaved into a complex plot full of mystery and suspense. A very satisfying read. Can I say 3 stars for most of the story and then 4 when it really picks up, at the end? I think this book could have been a lot more satisfying had it been trimmed down a little more, been tighter and faster. If I could tear out all the pages of lesser [or un-]importance, Talion: Revenant could have been a 5 star short story! The way it is, though, I can only give it 3.5 stars, rounded up because the ending deserves at least that. Not that the pages I'd tear out were bad, mind you. They were just too far from the plot and lessened its impact significantly. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The man he is sworn to protect is the man who butchered his family. Justices--the select of the Talion, endowed with fearsome magick and lethal martial skills--roam the Shattered Empire, crushing the lawless and championing the oppressed. Their word is law and their judgement binding on highborn and low. Nolan is a Justice born in what once was the free nation of Sinjaria. Orphaned in the war of conquest with the nation of Hamis, he traveled to far Talianna and secured the right to become a Justice. Now, years later, the Master of all Talions has a dangerous assignment for Nolan: He is to guard the life of the king who destroyed Sinjaria and slaughtered his family. Alone, Nolan ventures into the political maelstrom that is the court of Hamis to stop an assassin even his Masters think cannot be slain. . . . Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
