I would recommend this book for younger students because it has simple poems in it and the vocabulary is at a low level with lots of pictures. It is a poem book about alligators and other animals and has pictures to go along with them to catch the attention of the younger students. This would be good in classroom because poems are an important style of writing for students to understand and if they can connect it back to pictures or animals they are likely to have a better time creating their own poems and understanding them. What a great way to present facts about Alligators by pairing them with poetry. Each page features a poem about an alligator and pairs it with a factoid. On the opposite page is wonderful photography of alligators that depict the fact shared. At the back of the book are more detailed alligator facts and references for further investigation. A wonderful book to be used when teaching a unit on alligators as well as poetry. This book will interest both boys and girls of various ages. A must for all school libraries. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book made learning about alligators super fun and engaging. The poems were short and had good facts about alligators; they were partnered with photographs of what the poem was talking about as well as a little blurb that contained more facts that the poems may have brushed on talking about. Overall, it was a great engaging book of poems and information-- possibly good for illustrated nonfiction as well! This collection of poems sheds light on a very interesting animal. An animal that has a bad reputation for being evil and on a killing spree. The collection of poems talks about the alligators teeth, what they eat, how they take care of their babies and much more. The images are amazing, as they show up close parts of alligators. You can see their teeth, the tiny speckle of sparkle in their eyes and they even look kind of friendly. Never does Yolen depict these creatures as evil or killers, in her poems she talks about them in a factual and informative way. Genre: Poetry geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
