I got the impression that the author was an actual no-nonsense beekeeper, so along with learning about the nature of bees, one also learns about the role of the humans who maintain hives to help the bees. Plus, one discovers the wax scales, the pollen baskets, the poison sacs, the battles of the queens, and the short but leisurely life of the drone.
Now, I can enjoy my newfound knowledge, when next I venture to watch my little friends make boot upon the summer's velvet buds.
