Interesting talk by the legendary Howard Zinn at Taos Talking Film Festival. ( ) Listened to it this afternoon. Wasn't quite what I expected since I was hoping there was a bit more 'movies' to it, but it was mostly history and politics. Zinn is an eminent historian enough to know what he's talking about and it is interesting to listen to him ramble for an hour about 'what the movies don't tell us', but in the end it's more a lecture about how real life works, with a short conclusion at the end of each subject (war or politics for example). geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
In this informal talk recorded at the Taos Film Fesitival, Zinn turns his attention to Hollywood, the stories it tells and those it doesn't. He tells the stories of wars from the point of view of disillusioned deserters, of the differences between All Quiet on the Western Front and Saving Private Ryan and then goes on to discuss the Haymarket Affair, Eugene Debs and the real story of Helen Keller. A spellbinding and provocative speaker, Zinn enlarges our view of history in much the same way he did with the publication of A People's History of the United States.
