The city of Thrull, once dedicated to Reh, God of Light, was conquered seven years ago by the vampire army of Lord Faran Gaton Nekhron. Ouch, this book felt like someone grabbed a thesaurus and looked for the biggest word they could find to describe something. The word didn't always fit what they described and they lacked a true action element that might drive one to enjoy this genre. I'm a fan of vampiric stories, especially ones where the vampire is the hunted rather than the hunter. This book, while trying to draw on that concept, takes too much out of its reader. Frequently I kept wanting to just give up on the book. It needs to be edited, with less characters. Centralize the plot more with less. I had the rest of the trilogy, but don't expect to read them. Pedantic, flowery, loaded with 'weasel words', contradictory descriptions and generally in desperate need of an editor with a backbone. This book has much promise but reads like a second draft. I won't be finishing the trilogy. (

This book was torture to get through. It was so incredibly slow. I kept waiting for the action to happen that never did.
While I generally like the fantasy genre, I found this book difficult to stick with. It was so thick and deliberately slow, I felt that it never went anywhere. It must be about 3 inches thick and the entire plot happens over the course of only one evening. I've never even bothered with the following books in the trilogy. (
