Between the first Jacobite rising in 1689 and the final collapse in 1746, the hopes of the House of Stuart were centred mainly on Scotland. It would be quite wrong, however, to regard the Jacobite rebellions as a contest between England and Scotland. In the 17th and 18th centuries the Lowland Scots shared many of the feelings of the English, and had cause to hate and fear their countrymen in the Highlands. Thus it was the Highland clans that the Jacobites looked to for their most reliable manpower. Michael Barthorpe tells the fascinating story of the Jaconite rebellions, detailing the organisation and uniforms of both sides. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

The Gerry Embleton plates, which quite good, it seems to me stray a bit from the mark. There a few plates of clansmen in highland dress, but the majority are of those regiments that fought against them. Maybe that's appropriate given that highland dress didn't change a great deal, but more examples would be helpful to me as a miniature wargamer who has to paint examples of the little beggars. ( )
