House of Earth and Blood is a whimsical, yet dangerous, fantasy book centered around Bryce and Hunt. Demons, angels, faeries, and humans living together, there is bound to be chaos and destruction. Crescent City 1 is a fantastic book for anyone who loves an "aha" moment at the end of a book! I laughed out loud, cried multiple times, and could not count how many times I gasped. The world-building at the beginning of the book was hard to trudge through but 100% worth it to get to the rest of the book. This is one of my top favorites of SJM I loved the characters and the story-line was intriguing. As someone who doesn't like modern stories as much I was worried about this being set in a modern times but it didn't bother me at all or pull me out of the story. Recommend for SJM and/or fantasy lovers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶/4 World building - plentiful Character development - great Magical / Creature systems - interesting At least one thing I didn't see coming - check Times I bawled my eyes out - Lei Lei - not forgiving this one anytime soon - The Drop + Danika Main complaint - SO MUCH of this book was about slavery but it was really only addressed via Hunt's reality as one of the most effected by it. But the rest.... they kind of just act like it's normal. Like they had paid jobs and that kind of made it bearable. Yes we get a slight coup at the end against it but that was only a few angels. And of course Lei Lei talking about it. But overall it was so oddly addressed and I hope to see it more aggressively discussed as the fight for power against the empire wages. "Half-Fae, half-human Bryce Quinlan loves her life. By day, she works for an antiquities dealer, selling barely legal magical artifacts, and by night, she parties with her friends, savoring every pleasure Lunathion-otherwise known as Crescent City-has to offer. But it all comes crumbling down when a ruthless murder shakes the very foundations of the city-and Bryce's world. Two years later, her job has become a dead end, and she now seeks only blissful oblivion in the city's most notorious nightclubs. But when the murderer attacks again, Bryce finds herself dragged into the investigation and paired with an infamous Fallen angel whose own brutal past haunts his every step. Hunt Athalar, personal assassin for the Archangels, wants nothing to do with Bryce Quinlan, despite being ordered to protect her. She stands for everything he once rebelled against and seems more interested in partying than solving the murder, no matter how close to home it might hit. But Hunt soon realizes there's far more to Bryce than meets the eye-and that he's going to have to find a way to work with her if they want to solve this case. As Bryce and Hunt race to untangle the mystery, they have no way of knowing the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents, and down to the darkest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir.."-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

I really appreciated the ending for Bryce and Hunt and all the human, fae, angel, and other characters. ( )
