I'm a big fan of Doctor Who not so much of Torchwood but I still enjoyed some episodes. I thought I was going to like this book but I didn't. It felt really flat to me and I now realize that it's probably because I wasn't invested in any of the characters so I didn't know their motivations or their history. I'm not sure if I want to go back and look for the other stories that came before this one because the "bad alien of the episode" didn't really excite me and it sounded like a mockery of the internet. Not that I mind the internet being made fun of with its influx of memes and stupid daredevil content creators but I get enough of that in real life and even then it's not interesting to me. I don't really care to read about the other "bad alien of the episode" villains if this one was so mediocre. https://nwhyte.livejournal.com/2845708.html A.K. Benedict is a new writer to me, with a couple of novels edging between fantasy and crime, and also a rather fun Torchwood audio, The Victorian Age. This is a straightforward haunted house story, very similar in fact to this year's Doctor Who episode Knock Knock, though with some good moments from Tanya and some great moments from Miss Quill, and with plotline involving a Syrian refugee, also trapped in the haunted house, for a contemporary feel. It's set between episodes 3 and 4. All in the present tense for some reason. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

But it doesn't know what to do with its far too many characters, and not much actually happens.
Really, though, I deducted a star for the description of flashes of memory as "Snapchats of memory" and for the part where they talk about Ghostbusters, but it's the awful remake. ( )
