A queasily and shocking story about a teenage boy transformed into a vampire and the obvious metaphor that comes with this territory. ( ) I just read Vol. 1 - 4 and goodness, this is one gorgeously drawn well-paced vampire (the terrifying type) manga. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This could be considered a spoiler. There is a scene of sexual assault in volume 4. These novels are rife with violence and assault in general because vampires. The first half of the story is a fairly griping, if typical, vampire transformation of a young boy who must try to survive other brutal vampire children, cults, and scientists. Unfortunately, the later half of the story focuses on different characters once Makoto Ozaki and the other vampires are captured by scientists. The second half is about a crazy cult who worships vampires and has kidnapped and tortured some other characters, which is not nearly as compelling. Bullied high schooler Makoto Okazaki is attacked one night by a woman in rags who bites him on the neck and bounds away as if she is flying. The next day he can feel his body changing as he becomes more sensitive to the smell of blood and less tolerant of his bully. Oddly, this leaves me feeling like a vampire retelling of Spider-Man's origin. Oshimi's ability to shape side characters that are a little off from the expected draws me along past the more predictable bits. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Happiness (1) Erelijsten
Nothing interesting in happening in Makoto Ozaki's first year of high school. HIs life is a serise of quiet humiliations: low-grade bullies, unreliable friends, and the constant frustration of his adolescent lust. But one night, a pale, thin girl knocks him to the ground in an alley and offers him a choice. Now everything is different. Daylight is searingly bright. Food tastes awful. And worse than anything is the terrible, consuming thirst. The tiny shames of his old life have been replaced by two towering horrors: the truth of what will slake his awful craving, and high school itself. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
