This one has robots and nanobots as the tools for the bad guy. The person that bankrolled it has some dealings with bad guys from previous books but hadn’t been seen before. Granted Zephyr is really nothing more than a rich, scary smart puppet of someone else and that someone else is someone the DMS has gone up against before. The government doesn’t have much faith in the DMS due to what happened in the previous book and they have to overcome that along with everything else. ( ) After the slight misstep of the last Joe Ledger book, I must say, I was a bit worried to pick this one up. I shouldn't have been. Holy shit, Ledger is back. In a big damn way. Honestly, if there's anyone writing testosterone-fueled military action thrillers with a slight horror/supernatural bent anywhere near as good as this, please let me know, because Maberry's stuff is top-shelf stuff. It also helps that he's got a phenomenal narrator in Ray Porter for the audiobooks. I've heard Porter do other books, and he's never not good, but with the Ledger series, he's simply incredible. Everywhere Maberry goes for the feels, Porter delivers them. Where Maberry goes for the action, Porter delivers. Maberry writes excellent stuff, but Porter brings that stuff to life. If I have any minor quibble with this book, it's that Bunny and Top show up, then are seemingly forgotten for a couple of hundred pages. But it's minor. Seriously, this book gets all the Goodreads stars. DOGS OF WAR was another hit with me! Ray Porter gives Joe Ledger heart. When Joe is worried about his family or about completing a mission, I worry right there along with him. Porter brings life to Maberry's work and they both have made Joe Ledger part of MY family. I would never have thought that this series would work so well. Action and military type stuff is not my bag. Maberry and Porter have MADE it my bag and I'm happy and grateful for that. They have provided a wonderful distraction from real life these last few months. It was just what I needed. Highly recommended! *I rejoined Audible so that I wouldn't have to wait on the library's list anymore.* geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Joe Ledger (9)
"Dogs of War: Robots are no longer science fiction. Autonomous, programmed to react like animals: fast, relentless, deadly. From microscopic nanobots to massive self-guided aircraft. This technology is here, it's assessable, and it's dangerous. What's even scarier is that almost anyone can get their hands on it. A freelance terrorist uses the latest generation of robot dogs to deliver WMDs into cities across America. Sophisticated military weapons systems turn on their human masters. A technological apocalypse is coming and we may be too late to stop it. Joe Ledger and a newly rebuilt Department of Military Sciences square off against this new and terrible threat. Dogs of War pits Joe against a merciless new enemy and an army of techno-terrorists in a race to prevent a global destruction. Let loose the Dogs of War"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
