Ever since I was three years old The Titanic has been my favorite movie. When I saw a children's chapter book about the titanic I just had to grab it! I liked this book because of the way it is set up. Each chapter is a new day of Edwin's adventure. For example, chapter 1 is all about April 9, 1912. This chapter focuses on the day before he leaves to go to the promise land and chapter 2 is all about April 10, 1912. This will help readers better understand and keep track of the sequence of events. Another thing I liked about this book was the description. For example, when Edwin was describing the Titanic the text says "The rows of portholes seemed endless. How could something this gigantic float? It was astounding!" The text uses great, age appropriate adjectives. The overall message I took away from this book, is that everything happens for a reason. This is also a great historical fiction book for young readers who want to learn about the titanic in a story told way. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Ten year old Edwin is surprised to learn that he will be travelling to America on the famous new Titanic. Even more shocking is that he will be going with grandparents he has never known. Why does his mother want to send him away?Edwin explores the ship, meeting men such as Thomas Andrews, Bruce Ismay, and Captain Smith. Along the way, he also learns secrets about his own family's past. When the ship sinks and Edwin ends up in a lifeboat separated from everyone he knows, he wonders if he has survived the worst only to be abandoned in the middle of the Atlantic.
