This is one of the three Amy and Laura books--I loved these books when I was a child. In this one, Amy and Laura move to a new neighborhood and Amy finds it to be particularly hard to make friends. As she tries to make friends with the other girls, she notices that they go out of their way to make fun of another girl, Rosa, to the point of emotional bullying. Amy doesn't like the way Rosa is treated, but she thinks she has to ignore it or the other girls won't like her. Just as she begins to feel she has been accepted, however, something happens that causes her to feel very ashamed of herself and of the other girls. Sachs captures the concerns most all girls who face during the junior high years without preaching to her readers. From the back cover: "they're laughing at me, those stupid girls. I hate them!" Amy decides. "And I hate this new neighborhood. Everybody is so mean and unfriendly. Wh why did we ever have to move!" Suddenly a ball hits amy on the head. A loud voice calles, "Hey kid..." And then things begin to happen fast. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
