It almost seems like a missing part of the original 6 books. A stranger is found who does not speak the Nez Perce language and seems to be disturbed. Kaya, despite her suspicions about the woman, continues to treat her kindly and, in the end, discovers the tragedy that the woman had suffered. Kaya finally gets to be called Swan Circling and loses the nickname Magpie. ( ) The Silent Stranger is an amazing book abou a Nez Perce girl named Kaya. One day, people from her tribe come home with a woman who they did not know the language of or the tribe that she was from. Her hands were burned badly. Everyone has a hard time communicating with the woman, but Kaya refused to give up, especially after the death of her mentor, Swan Circling. Determined to follow in the footsteps of Swan Circling, Kaya followed the woman each day, only to find out that she has been taking her dog, Tatlo. The mystery then became bigger. Why was she taking her dog? Kaya grows angry with the woman, and makes her mission more about herself and her dog than it is about helping the woman. I liked this book because it has lots of details and is packed with information about the Nez Perce. The mystery is definitely a good book for second, third, and fourth graders. The book also taught me something about being open-minded. A stranger has arrived in Kaya’s village who will not communicate, and everyone wonders about her. Kaya is determined to do what she thinks her heroine Swan Circling would do: reach out to her and help her. Just as she is trying to, the woman befriends Kaya’s dog. Kaya can’t get out of her competition with the woman until she follows her and unlocks her secret by accident. When she gives the woman her dog, her grandmother says that it seems to be time to seek her Wyakin. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
