A murderous android discovers itself in "All Systems Red", a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial intelligence. In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid -- a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot." Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.… (meer)
Anonieme gebruiker: Fast paced, humorous space adventure with lots of fun twists without romance. Features a sarcastic main character who, like Murderbot, finds himself helping others while trying to understand and run from his own past (all while failing to convince himself he doesn't care).… (meer)
Cloverlimes: Action & humor focused race across space where the main character is pitted against corporate interests. Interesting characters, including AI characters.
Nebula Award for Best Novella earlier this year, All Systems Red also received the Hugo Award, the Alex Award, and the Locus Award for Best Novella as well! I love, love this series. The character is extremely engaging (for a self-confessed murderer) and the writing is tight and captivating. The plot is absorbing and one will likely read it in one sitting. Prepare.
After devouring the series (via the library), I then went out and bought it, and have now reread it. And it holds up beautifully.
This is the first in the series, followed by Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, and most recently Network Effect. ( )
Sencilla y sin mucha mas pretensión, pero Murderbot es la cosa mas bonica del mundo. Simbolo de los intorvertidos que solo queremos encerrarnos a ver series.
This was a quick, fun read in an engaging universe. I definitely want to read more Murderbot now! Love the character, love the descriptions, just a lot of fun. ( )
This was a good introduction to Murderbot, but I am glad to know there's more to read! I love the way it's hooked on media serials and answers questions so honestly. I look forward to the next installment. ( )
A self-aware security bot becomes attached to the group of human scientists he is assigned to. They are threatened by another force on the planet they are exploring. It's a short introduction to the main character but very appealing. ebook read 3/7/2024 ( )
But this book is sneaky. As much as you want to think this is just some lightweight little confection made of robot fights and space murder — and as much as All Systems Red wants to present itself as nothing but robot fights and space murder — Martha Wells did something really clever. She hid a delicate, nuanced and deeply, grumpily human story inside these pulp trappings, by making her murderous robot story primarily character-driven. And the character doing the driving?

I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites.

And in their corner all they had was Murderbot, who just wanted everyone to shut up and leave it alone so it could watch the entertainment feed all day.
