I keep two of her romances as my favorites in my bookcase, and I reread them once in the ten years, because I still enjoy this form of escape literature; a happy ending in a make believe romance world. In the words of A.S. Byatt, Sophy is a typical Heyer heroine. "A lively resourceful girl (...) with natural moral taste". And her cousin Charles, large and good looking, with keen intelligence hidden under sometimes a heartless, but amused approach. And she write in very good historical detail about the conventions and habits of daily family life in the Regency society period (between 1795 and 1837), and she does it " with good taste", as to quote A.S. Byatt again from her essay "An Honourable escape: Georgette Heyer". ( )
"By now entrenched in the Regency subgenre she had created, for her next novel, The Grand Sophy, Georgette Heyer created a protagonist able to both challenge its rules and manipulate its characters, and a tightly knitted plot whose final scene almost begs for a stage dramatization. The result is either among her best or most infuriating books, depending upon the reader. I find it both." Is opgenomen in

HTML: A New York Times Bestseller! "Georgette Heyer is the Queen of the Regency Romance. Long may she reign!" â??New York Times bestselling author LAUREN WILLIG A reader favorite from the Queen of Regency Romance, The Grand Sophy is a utterly hilarious and completely endearing story of Sophy and the outrageous lengths she goes to solve everyone else's problems, and the surprises in store for everyone! When Sir Horace Stanton-Lacy is ordered to South America on Diplomatic Business he parks his only daughter, Sophy, with his sister in Berkeley Square. Forward, bold, and out-spoken, Sophy sweeps in and immediately takes ton by storm. Upon her arrival, Sophy can see that her cousins are in a sad tangle: Ceclia is in love with a poet, Charles is engaged to a dour bluestocking, her uncle is of no use at all, and the younger children are in desperate need of some fun and freedom. They all need her help and it's providential that Sophy arrives when she does. What reviewers are saying about The Grand Sophy "The Grand Sophy was an exciting, charming read. The characters grab you and don't let go." â??Anna's Book Blog "Fun, engaging and hilarious, I cannot recommend it more highly. Sophy is a devilishly fine girl." â??
