I love Levine's reworking of classic fairy tales. This one fell a bit flat for me, especially towards the end. I wasn't sure what Peregrine's internal journey was supposed to be, and it made what was happening externally feel like A LOT. There were also a lot of moving parts in this one, which made the ending feel like one big event after another. I love the ideas, I just think the execution wasn't quite on par with some of her other work. For my full, non-spoiler review: https://christianlovingbooks.blogspot.com/2018/10/the-lost-kingdom-of-bamarre-re... I won an UNCORRECTED PROOF in a giveaway -- My cover is very different then the picture on the website.... Since this is marketed to youth readers... I think the new cover might be the better choice (my cover shows the back of a lone red-cloaked figure walking between cliffs with a castle high in shadowed background)... An excellent prequel to a great series.... this will surely captivate a whole new set of fans! The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre is a fast paced, highly enjoyable, fantasy fiction read. The characters are relatable and the story line has a logical flow. This book contains an overlying theme on prejudice, forgiveness and acceptance. The narrative follows Peregrine who has enjoyed a life of luxury as a member of the ruling class, but then discovers that she is a slave by birth. This could open up larger discussions about acceptance and tolerance. This story has enough magic and action to keep anyone interested, but would probably appeal more to girls ages 13 – 18. It is similar in style to Ella Enchanted, also by the same author, and is a prequel to The Two Princesses of Bamarre published in 2001. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
