Only 1000 of these were ever printed & that took over a decade - maybe two - to accomplish. Zelazny wrote the stories in the '60's & had always admired Bode's artwork, so they collaborated. But both wanted a full percentage of the book, so the project fell apart. Bode died & his estate finally settled with Zelazny so this limited edition could be printed.

The stories are great. They're supposed to be kid's stories, but they're fun for adults too. The artwork is wonderful. Vaughn Bode's artwork is supposed to have been influential on one of my all time favorite flicks, "Wizards" (1977), so I love it. I wish there was more of it, though. There are only a half dozen of his pieces in each - all great - but I expected more.

I'm happy that I finally got a chance to read these & add them to my collection. I think it's a real shame they never made it to the mass market, though. I had to pay far too much for them & too many people will never know what a wonderful opportunity they're missing. ( )
