Jorge Mario Bergoglio, aka Pope Francis, from Argentina, is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, and the first from the Southern Hemisphere. Since being elected pope he has shown a humbler, less formal approach to his office than his predecessors- a warm style that has been referred to as "no frills." His common touch and accessibility, as well as his insistence that the church be more open and welcoming, has quickly endeared him not only to Roman Catholics but to millions of others around the world. Pope Francis was born on December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age go 16 he knew God was calling him become a priest and he began his journey as he entered the seminary in 1956. He was ordained to the Jesuit order of priests and through his life worked his way up the church hierarchy. Then in 2005 he was voted on by the cardinals to become the pope. The whole world was full of excitement at this news. Pope Francis is not just my role model, but an entire nations role model. He sees the world as God originally intended humans to view it as. Pope Francis sees every body with the same eye. No one is better then another. He treats the poorest people in Rome just as well as the richest people in Rome. I did mission work this past summer in Guatemala and truly physically understand why he serves the poor. It truly allows the humble spirit of the Lord to enter and touch your heart. Pope Francis is changing the way the world views the church and this is extremely beneficial to human kind. ( )
