This book is adorable! It is an informational text that discusses the life cycle of fireflies and how they survive. The information is conveyed through the wise general firefly. He discusses each stage of firefly life known as metamorphosis. Each page also includes fun facts about other insects who share similar life cycles. The book identifies the body parts of the firefly and what helps them grow.

Overall, this book is a fun read and great for younger students. It’s engaging and descriptive. I would either have this as a read-aloud before a science lesson about fireflies and insects or on my science bookshelf. ( )

I think that this book would be good for middle to upper elementary students because it has some really complicated vocabulary behind it. It also is really informative about different fireflies and what each one does or has that is different than others. This book could be really difficult for some students to understand or follow because there is a lot going on in it. However with prompting students should be able to access the text relatively easily. I would use this text in the classroom to teach students the life cycle of fireflies and what it entails. An extended activity for this might be to have students do research about an animal or plant and write a narrative similar to that of this text that is super engaging but with their own animals. ( )

This book is super great because it will be super engaging for our young students. It tells the life of a firefly in a fun way that talks about it moving from being a kid to adulthood. It is fun way to look at the life and growth of fireflies. This is also a good book to talk about vocabulary that goes along with this. It is a good introduction into vocabulary and will give a great way to find out more about what the subject. I really like this mainly because the book is so engaging that it is good to get students excited about the unit that you are going to be talking about with them.

This book is so unique and so entertaining to read through. It includes fun facts embedded throughout the story. It answers many questions people may have about fireflies and keeps you laughing. I would totally read this book to a group of older students, probably 3-5. The humor in the book would be perfect to keep this age range of kids engaged while they are learning about the life cycle of fireflies. I loved the information presented in the book as well as the humor and layout of the book. I definitely want to check out the other books by this author on the other animals life cycles. ( )
