I love this series already! I read the first book a long time ago but finally got the next books. These are so thrilling and suspenseful! In this one, A team goes looking for a missing female team member that fell while working on the outside of the ship. What they didn't know was that X was still alive after 10 years!

Sometimes I find sequels, or books that are in the middle of a planned series a bit dull compared the beginning and the ending. But I have to be honest, Hell Divers-Ghosts comes back strong and packs one heck of a powerful punch. The action never stops and the scares keep the hair on your arms raised in fear page after page after page. This be a very frightful book dear readers! Book Two launches it's beginning 10 years later after book one ends. Our hero, X, has weathered and aged from years of loneliness and a decade of surviving by the skin of his teeth. Using his wits and Hiver diving skills to keep one step ahead of the terrors that hunt in the dark, he has become weary and wonders if being the last person on earth is worth the effort.

Our young friend and hero Tin, has now grown up to become a Hell Diver himself, melancholy from the death of his father and the daily angst of wondering if X is alive or dead. Now a grown man he must face his own demons and now proudly joins the Hell Diver Team Ghosts to keep humanity alive.

On board ship, we revisit some old faces, as well as meet intriguing new characters to keep us on our toes as to who are the good guys and who are the bad. We also have a new Captain, one who seems hell bent on ruling with an iron fist and appears to be quite the lunatic. He is harboring secrets, and is running the airship with his own goals and gains foremost in his mind, rather than keeping the lasting survivors of planet earth alive and well. Radiation sickness is poisoning the people, and the airship is dying it's own death due to lack of parts and fuel and too many years traveling the deadly skies.

I love the diving scenes, they are so harrowing and nerve-wracking. I truly feel like I am diving through these horrifying storms myself. As I read I can hear the thunder and see the flashes of intense lightning as I plummet faster and faster downward into hell. Nicholas Sansbury-Smith has such an incredible talent to amaze and frighten the reader due to skilled writing making it all so very believable.

Action, heartwarming characters you will love and cheer for, scary-as-all-get-go blood-curdling creatures abound, and a plot that will keep you guessing, flinching...and....gasping....for more of this nightmarish story. Keep 'em coming Nick. This series rocks! 5 stars. ( )

With the way Book 1 ended, I had to jump right into Book 2. Set 10 years later, the book keeps us in suspense as to what ultimately happened to X from Book 1. While that question was in the back of my mind, I got caught up with Tin, who’s real name is Michael Everhart. He’s now a young man, considered a full experienced adult in this post-apocalyptic society. The Hive airship is still flying. Yet things haven’t been all rosy these past years. It’s been one emergency after another. Captain Leon Jordan handles some of these emergencies well and others not so much. As the pressure builds, he makes more and more mistakes.

Once again, the action keeps this book moving along at a swift clip. I worried over this character or that one and was on the edge of my seat for the entire book. Michael is a great character to follow. He’s become a Hell Diver (like his dad and like X). I was glad to see that Layla was still a significant part of Michael’s life. I love that they work as a team and there’s no ridiculous chauvinistic chivalry from Michael and no fainting flower silliness from Layla. These two are a great hero duo.

There’s a canine companion, Miles, in this book which makes life bearable for a certain character. Yay! Of course, there were several times where I worried about the dog’s safety. No fears! The dog makes it through this book.

Captain Jordan is not a good person. I think he once was, but the constant pressure since he assumed control (after Cpt. Ash succumbed to cancer) has brought out the worst traits in the man. I think Katrina, who was once X’s lover, has tried her best to keep Jordan level-headed. I knew Jordan had gone to the dark side when he removed the ship’s historical artwork from the hallways. Bad move!

Hell Diver Magnolia is back in this book but early on I worried if she would make it through this book alive! Her accident acts as a catalyst for Michael and his Hell Divers to break some rules. She’s got some of the best lines in the book.

All told, this is a worthy sequel to Book 1. I found it just as enthralling. 5/5 stars.

The Narration: R. C. Bray continues to do this series justice. I liked his grown up voices for Tin (Michael) and Layla, who were kids in Book 1. He had the perfect voice for jerk captain Jordan as well. His female characters sounded feminine and each character had a unique voice. The pacing was perfect as well. 5/5 stars. ( )
