A heart-stopping, gripping thriller for fans of C. L. Taylor, Karin Slaughter and Linwood Barclay. On the tenth anniversary of her daughter Autumn's abduction, Francine receives an anonymous note containing just five words: I KNOW WHERE SHE IS. When a young woman approaches her the next day claiming to have sent the letter Francine wants to dismiss it as a cruel, twisted joke. But the stranger knows things that only Autumn would know. It soon becomes clear that Francine must go to dark places in order to learn the truth about her child's kidnapping. She will discover that danger comes from unexpected sources. She will do things she never imagined herself capable of. But will Francine get her daughter back - or is it too late?… (meer)

I thought this was going to be such a good thriller but it just got way to involved with way too many unbelievable crazy twists and turns. I totally enjoy a good thriller but this book is not one of those. The ending was especially disappointing. ( )

This book will undoubtedly have a few triggers for some readers as well-being to far out of the comfort zone for others but that aside, It really is worth reading and I am really really hoping there will be a follow up book to this one!

I didn’t actually expect the story to go down this route so it was a bit of a surprise but I am glad I stuck with it. It started off a little slowly for mean the main protagonist wasn’t instantly likeable ( sorry Francine!) but by half way I was completely invested in her and her daughter Autumn.

For me it is Autumn that is the star of the show, a strong, brave, resilient young girl that you cant help but to feel for. Thankfully most of us will never have to experience even a fraction of what these two and the other girls have gone through and this book will have you counting your blessings for that whist checking to make sure your own kids are still tucked up safe and sound! (Or was that just me?)

It’s so hard to write this as I really don’t want to give you the whole storyline before you have had chance to read the book for yourselves but I think you will have a good idea from this that this is not just about kidnapped children.

I think that possibly if I had known before i started reading that i might not have chosen this book to read but i am really glad that i did which is why i urge you to try this book for yourselves and not be put off if you can. You wont regret it in my opinion and if like me, come the end you will be crossing your fingers that there will be a continuation of Autumns story! ( )

The fact that the book I read before this one was centred around the same crime—paedophilia/sexual abuse/torture—(not intentional, incidentally…I had no idea before I started either book!)—may suggest that it’s a slightly overdone story line...perhaps.

However, that said, for a debut novel, this is quite an explosive burst onto the literary scene for this author.

Ten years after Francine’s daughter's (Autumn) abduction, she receives a note saying quite simply: I know where she is. The note’s author, Lena, makes herself known to Francine shortly after and tells her she does indeed know where Autumn is. Clinging on to that last vestige of hope that her daughter is still alive, Francine, armed with vague snippets of information from Lena, does things she’d probably only ever seen in movies to try and find her daughter. But a mother will do anything, anything for her child.

It's all a bit ‘convenient’, there are no real intricacies in the plot, there are some plausibility issues, and the story lacks a bit of padding. It isn’t a long book, but I think its conciseness is at the expense of some finer details. The ending is a little hurried and abrupt. But, but, but...for all that, this was a very well-written, gripping—albeit dark, unsettling, disturbing—and compelling story and certainly had me glued to the pages from start to finish.

An excellent start for this author, and I’ll certainly be looking out for his future novels. ( )

It's been ten years since Francine's daughter Autumn went missing. Francine receives a note stating that the sender knows where her daughter is. From this point Francine goes on to find her daughter.

I quite enjoyed the start of this book and up to the halfway point. The premise sounded good and for a while the story was quite exciting. Second half of the book for me went downhill with the story stretching the imagination and for me been a little far fetched. The story has some dark themes including kidnapping and abuse which could make uncomfortable reading.

Thrillers seem to be one of my main reading genres and I have read a lot. I have read many good ones but also some that are not so good. I do like books to be a little realistic although I do appreciate that I am reading fiction. This book was ok to start but just went downhill. A little disappointed after a good start. ( )
