The Liar's Girl
by Catherine Ryan Howard published but Blackstone Publishing was a book I really didn’t see coming but I enjoyed every second of the ride. First thank you to Catherine Ryan Howard for writing this novel second thank you to Netgalley the publisher and the author for allowing me the chance to review it you have definitely made a new fan in me. This was an edge of your seat page turner from start to finish. Once I actually started it I felt like it was one I just had to finish. I felt that the details were beautifully placed and the story moved well the author does an amazing job keeping the reader engaged from page one to the last page. The story is so good I do not wish to spoil it for anyone what I will say that the bulk of the story is written in the point of view of Alison and goes back and forth from Present to the past. I feel that Alison Matured well as the story progressed and it was a story that connected the dots well and while some parts kept you on your toes others the author let you figure out making this read an awesome journey. My apology for the delayed review I ended up being sick and didn’t get a chance to express how I loved this one in a timely manner. I however have recommended to a few people who love thrillers already. I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

This was my first book by this author, and I enjoyed it. The characters were pretty believable, and the mystery unfolded in a way that wasn't blatantly obvious from the start. I'm impressed and will read another. ( )

Definitely one of my newest go-to authors. ( )

When Ali is nineteen she begins college at St. John's and meets charismatic, attractive Will and they become inseparable. Ali is shocked when she learns that Will is the Canal Killer - having stalked and drowned five young women in the muddy waters of the Grand Canal, including Ali's best friend, Liz. Will has been sentenced to life in jail. But it's been ten years and Will is locked up in the city's Central Psychiatric Hospital, so when a young woman is found in the Grand Canal the Garda detectives visit Will in hopes that he can help them solve the copycat killing. But Will won't speak. The only way he will is if Ali comes to see him. The last thing Ali wants is to leave her anonymity and the Netherlands to return to a time she's worked so hard to forget. But the right thing to do is to go back and so she does.

I really had to think about what to rate this. The first chapter was great, it was strong, it pulled me in. I loved the setting. I really enjoyed the chapters about Ali's past, about the excitement about going to college with her best friend and how everything is so new to them. The characters were three-dimensional. But I felt like in the present chapters there was just a whole lot of the same thing going on which also made it feel as though a whole lot of nothing happened. Ali was brought back to Ireland to solve a case - really? The detectives are trained to do this sort of thing, that's their job and they had to bring in someone else to do it for them? It just didn't sit well with me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for an ARC. ( )

Well written and well performed. Recommended.

We coddle our children through 18 (sometimes later) and then expect them to instantly be wise adults. Perhaps a little more responsibility earlier in life would help them avoid making bad choices when they go off to college, have their first real freedoms, and so forth.

Most of these young college freshmen aren’t bad, but they are still in the me phase and their mistakes can cost them dearly.

Add to the mix some bad adults, some far from perfect people in powerful positions and serious mistakes happen. These mistakes will effect the rest of their life’s. ( )
