George is a big orange cat who lives on a farm. He is the Chief of Security whose job is to keep the farm free from rodents. He is very proud of all he does on the farm and when he is finished a good day's work, he likes to nap. There is a second house on the farm that is empty. It has a large porch that used to be infested with mice. George cleaned it up and now claims the house as his own. His napping spot is the nice sunny spot on that porch. All goes well until the day someone else is napping in his sunny spot. When the house gets new tenants, they bring a small gray kitten named Felix and 2 dogs named Brutus and Festus. When George tells Felix to find a different spot to lay down, Felix calls on his two bodyguards who chase George away. George decides that he must find a way to get his spot back. With some tricks and some help, George tries many things to get Felix and the dogs to leave and/or relinquish his spot.

This story, about two rivals who must learn how to get along. This will involve compromise and cooperation as well as listening to each other and putting themselves in someone else's position. The characters are lovable and believable, and the ending is a realistic one. My only problem with this story is that the cuteness might not appeal to the age group the story is intended for. I could see this as a read aloud in a junior class with a lot of discussion about what they should do next. I think this would make a good addition to a school or classroom library.
