The Loneliest Continent The Story of Antarctic Discovery, by Walker Chapman (read 28 Mar 2014) I have read a lot of good books on Antarctica--probably the most memorable being Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, by Alfred Lansing, which I read March 1, 2003, and which was the best book I read in 2003. This book covers, in workmanlike fashion, the exploration beginning in the time before Christ and telling of great explorers like Captain Cook and then of the more recent explorers, including of course Scott and Amundsen and Shackleton and Byrd. I think the book does a good job telling of the these exciting events. The author is Richard Silverberg, writing under a pseudomyn--a man who has written seemingly hundreds of books. While the book is now 50 years old I think it does a commendable job with its fascinating subject. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
