But this is not a fantasy story and there is no Peter Pan or Never Never Land. Instead this is a story of an imaginative young girl who sees something she wasn't meant to and the burden this places on her. Although set in VIctorian London, Wendy's predicamemt is universal as she tries to make sense of the adult world. This is an engaging read and would appeal to young teenage girls who enjoy realistic stories and/or historical fiction. NOT a Peter Pan story! Father is despicable with his drinking, losing his job and cheating on his wife. Mother seems only to think about spending money. Turns out the first son they had was mentally challenged and living on Mother’s home estate with her bother and his wife because Father couldn’t stand the idea of having a handicapped child. The children are basically ignored. Not even the best of readers would be compelled to finish this depressing book. Uhg. A horrible prequel to Peter Pan. This is very much someone elses idea of what Wendy was up to before Peter flew in her window. The things I didn't like? 1. The nanny thing. They always had nana. End of story. 2. The older brother. I'm sorry. She was the oldest child of the Darlings. Not some boy with mental problems. 3. The whole thing about Mr. and Mrs. Darling having marital problems. Need I say more? In my opinion, don't waste your time. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderscheidingen
In early twentieth-century London, before their encounter with Peter Pan, nine-year-old Wendy and her younger brothers lead far from perfect lives with their emotionally distant parents and abusive Nanny, a situation that only worsens for Wendy when she see her father kiss another woman and finds herself pulled into an adult world of mysteries and lies.
