In this third hilarious trade paperback Barry Ween's bringing monkeys! Heis the world's smartest human being; his "big brain," has a limitless capacityfor knowledge, and Barry has no problem putting that knowledge to use. That'spretty cool when you consider the fact that he's only 10 years old.Unfortunately, when you have that kind of smarts, trouble is nearly a foregoneconclusion! Giant, talking gorillas from other dimensions; drunken, smelly clansof Bigfeet; and a germ-filled monkey looking to cause the next outbreak --these are things that Barry has come to accept as normal. Compared to suchfrightening childhood rites of passage as girls and the first school dance,Barry would take all three scenarios without blinking. This trade paperbackcollects the first three issues of Eisner-nominated creator Judd Winick'smini-series and features the debut of Bezeruul, the giant talking ape!… (meer)

I like the Barry Ween comics kind of despite myself. The art is okay (even if I hate the way he draws the love interest) and the characters are fun (even if I hate what he does with the love interest) and the stories work as fun, old fashioned action stories (even if they are a bit too cynical and self-congratulatory about it.)

This is the Monkey Tales volume, playing on that old comics principle that any comic with a monkey on the cover at least doubles sales. The first and last stories (about the rescue of a giant superintelligent gorilla and the capture of an escaped research monkey infected with a deadly virus) were just kind of okay, but the drop-out yeti, and Roxy the misfit yeti, in the second story were *totally* worth it. The third collection of Judd Winick's wickedly funny "Barry Ween", which is aptly described as a cross between "Dexter's Laboratory" and "South Park". The adventures here begin to delve deeper into Barry's own misanthropic personality, and his feelings for Sara. More of his sensitive side, such as it is, is shown here in an occasionally poignant (but deeply funny) fashion. ( )
