This was a long story, but well worth the time. It is the conclusion to the trilogy about Leana, Rose and Jamie set in Scotland in 1790. I liked the way Tracie Peterson described this story in her review at the beginning of the book: "Liz has taken what could have been a triple threat - biblical history, Scottish history, and the difficulty of not overwhelming the reader with either one - and has created a story that is sure to last the ages". I totally agree. This is a story I will long remember. I am reading "Grace In Thine Eyes" next, which follows this family from this trilogy, but skips ahead about 18 years.

In this story you will follow Jamie McKie as he seeks to provide and care for both of the women he loves and who are both carrying his child. I know this may seem a little unbelievable, but the author makes this whole scenario truly work. Jamie will travel back home to Glentrool to claim his inheritance, which will be a journey that will test the strength and endurance of all three. This story had a lot of sorrow in it, but was also filled with love and tenderness towards one another. I must admit that once again Leana comes out as my favorite character and although I liked Rose, she was young and had a lot to learn. Jamie is someone who has grown throughout the series and I appreciated his dilemma and his tenderness towards both ladies. This will be a story I will remember long after I have closed the book. Great job by Liz Curtis Higgs! ( )

The Lowlands of Scotland series ends with this novel, although there is another novel after this that I believe is related but not in the same manner. I'm glad finally to get to the end of the saga of Rose, Leana, and Jamie. The final resolution was predictable, but I enjoyed the journey. One thing that I did get tired of reading throughout the entire series, over and over again, was the phrase, "Please forgive me!" These three characters spent three novels asking that of each other over and over again, and by the end of this book, I was tired of this conversation line. Again, I appreciate the research and the fact that the book feels authentic. ( )

So excited to finally read this book. I yearned for an ending to all of the unfortunate things that were happening to the three main characters. I believe that each of these books has at least one climax or one main event in the book, but this book had several. All of them bad. If there was one thing that I could change about these books, would be to make more happiness, but that's not the purpose of these books. These books were written to portray the hardships that Leana, Rose and Jamie went through, and how though there were many hardships that most could not bear, God helped them through and the book portrayed this perfectly. It had a bitter sweet ending that finally pulled all three books together beautifully. A wonderfully written book and trilogy that definitely has me convinced to read other books by the same author.
