( ) The Parasolverse Comes to a Close My local library doesn't have the finishing school series physically (but I haven't looked digitally yet), so I am not familiar with Sophronia, Preshea, and Agatha but I am intrigued by their old lady selves in the background here. Percy Tunstell takes a turn in the POV chair alongside new character (and daughter of who I assume is a Finishing School character) Arsenic Ruthven, the airship's new doctor. The fourth and final Custard Protocol book takes us on a journey to Japan to find kitsune, or fox shifters. Per the acknowledgements, Carriger had a delicacy reader this time, and it shows with a more organic introduction to eastern supernaturals than book 1 did in India. I really appreciated the nuance between Japanese kitsune and Lady Manami's huli jing (the Chinese take on a nine tailed fox spirit). Definitely feels like a close for the series, as we get to see a bit of all our players for a bit and the end is a bit saccharine (but how could it not, given the series?) Fun, frivolous at times, I'm not mad that I read it. Yay for Percy's story, for Scottish doctors, for a solid romance and a solid alternative family structure. Baby, wedding, spies and continuing Custard adventures. Love the beautiful imagery of the Paper city, and the beautiful handling of Japanese culture into the story. Audio version is likewise excellent, fantastic reader. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: Bookish and proper Percival Tunstell finds himself out of his depth when floating cities, spirited plumbing, and soggy biscuits collide in this delightful conclusion to NYT bestselling author Gail Carriger's Custard Protocol series. Percival Tunstell loves that his sister and her best friend are building themselves a family of misfits aboard their airship, the Spotted Custard. Of course, he'd never admit that he belongs among them. He's always been on the outside - dispassionate, aloof, and hatless. But accidental spies, a trip to Japan, and one smart and beautiful doctor may have him renegotiating his whole philosophy on life. Except hats. He's done with hats. Thank you very much.
