Once she speaks, parts get revealed and it turned out the way two characters acted towards her were an act. It was refreshing to have a plot twist like that, mainly because I liked one of those characters. Then it becomes a bit generic, with a superpowered main character and training and I almost gave up, but Cami (main character's genuine besf friend) made me push through. Cami truly is my favourite character of this novel, although I like Sneak as well. The rest.... They're ok, but not super lovable. It takes a long while to hear her voice and an even longer while to hear her name. But once we do we get revelations upon revelations upon revelations. Most of them are very interesting, although all the exposition gets a bit tiresome after a while. Luckily, this book was not romance heavy. I could smell the love triangle from 10 miles away and prepared for the worst, but it was not that bad. It also helps that the main character doesn't speak about attractiveness and the fact thaf both love interests might or might not be trustworthy. And then there suddenly was a third guy making this a love square (?) Another thing I did not really like was the fact that it got confusing who had which power, what the effects were and what that meant. Really disappointed with this. I loved Arkanae but this was not great. I struggled to get invested in the story. It is also more like shatter me than divergent which I had heard that it was pitched as like divergent. It's more like Shatter me. Still, it takes a lot of courage to write a novel so, good job to Lynette Noni for having that courage. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

At the start of "Whisper," I was fully invested in Jane’s story but around the halfway mark, the setting changed and new characters were introduced, and that’s when the author lost me. Also, it was obvious that there was a love triangle brewing. Overall, I found "Whisper" a disappointing read. ( )
