After having read and loved [b:Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist|25373|Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist|Rachel Cohn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1425188149l/25373._SX50_.jpg|929639] as well as [b:Dash & Lily's Book of Dares|7741325|Dash & Lily's Book of Dares (Dash & Lily, #1)|Rachel Cohn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327874609l/7741325._SX50_.jpg|10551409], I wanted to read this one as well.

The book isn't just a huge disappointment, it is a disaster. Apart from the characters who seem to be a group of the most idiotic and annoying teenagers which you can't stand (and they probably can't stand themselves either), there is no real plot, or at least not one worth reading the book for.

It seems as if Rachel Cohn & David Levithan were forced to write this book together and decided to punish the publisher and reader with coming up with the crappiest story and characters they could think of.

The only positive thing about this book is that it's so short, you don't have to suffer for a long time if you want to make it to the end. ( )

I love me my David Levithan and I loved the concept of this but.

Also the ending was too neatly wrapped up and pretty. Like, oh yeah, you're a teenager YA reader, don't worry nothing you're experiencing really matters.

But I loved the characters and the interactions. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book, but its not really something I would read again I dont think. This isnt a very plot driven book, I saw it more as a character study of Sam and Ilsa, shown through the lense of their party. I think it would work better as a play than a novel tbh. ( )

Fraternal twins, Sam and Ilsa throw legendary dinner parties. Each invited 3 persons, unknown to the other. They choose "interesting" and provocative guests. This is the interesting premise exploited to its extreme in this novel. Eight teenagers who drink illegally, engage in taunts and insults, use foul language and, worst, abuse a grandmother's stately penthouse in NYC is not this reader's idea of a fun night. There is an attempt at reflective growth at the end of the book but it is too little, too late. Urban, 'sophisticated' teens may enjoy some of the banter. ( )

Literary merit: good
Characterization: great for such a short book
Recommended: yes
Level: high school

So, this is a short novel. The authors crammed a whole bunch of issues in 202 pages. Sam’s character had too much going on for the book to be as light-hearted and fun as the cover and length suggest. In saying that, I did enjoy the book. I think it is a great book for seniors in high school, dealing with the great unknown of their futures.
Sam and Ilsa throw a final dinner party in their grandmother’s fancy apartment in New York. They have had several parties there. Since Sam and Ilsa are twins they add a fun twist to the guest list and each invite 3 guests and one out of the three must be a stranger to the other twin. As you can imagine the guest list is full of interesting characters and one sock puppet. ( )
