Sometimes the best day of your life is the one you never saw coming. Joe Cohen has devoted the past two years of his life to one thing: the care and feeding of Kade Bosa. His partner in their PI business, roommate, and best friend, Kade is everything to Joe, even if their relationship falls short of what Joe desires most. But he won't push. Kade has suffered a rough road, and Joe's pretty sure he's the only thing holding Kade together. Estranged from his own family, Joe knows the value of desperately holding on to someone dear, but he never expected his present and past to collide just as Kade's is doing the same. Now they've stumbled across evidence that could change their lives: the impact of Kade's tragic past, their job partnership, and any future Joe might allow himself to wish for....… (meer)

So I kinda read this in a day, not meaning to, I just kept coming back to it because it's just such a fun story. Very loosely tied in with Calmes's Marshals and related series (same universe) but separate enough that this can be your intro or a standalone.

Favorite aspect of this universe: all good people from blood family to found family to stray needy people are cherished and protected through all these books - but the guys poke and tease and piss each other off and have each others' backs. If you love ornery guys in love, read these books. :) ( )

I’ve read so many of this authors books and love them. The characters are warm and believable making you want them for your friends and neighbors. However, Joe drove me insane and made me want to shake him the whole first half of the book. Kade wasn’t much better... but since we just got Joe’s point of view...he was the one that was annoying me the most. The secondary characters actually made the story a 4-star read since they were all absolutely wonderful...and not at all annoying. The storyline is similar to this author’s Marshall series...which I absolutely LOVED...but the characters are nowhere near as well developed as Ian and Miro from that series. I’d have to say that the story perhaps needed to be a bit longer and the characters needed to get together sooner considering the length of the book. ( )

I enjoyed this one a lot. It was fun and light even though it had a touch of angst past and thriller charge.

A P.I. and his ex-cop business partner are best friends. The MC would give anything for his partner but is pretty sure that his feelings are one sided. They go to find a guy per the request of ex-cops old boss and semi-hero. What they discover is a blood bath, a 20 yo hustler who’s been on the streets since he was 14 and the realisation that ex-cops hero is really the one who destroyed his life. The three men must now get to safety and get the truth released to those who can and will do something about it. This throws the men into a path that forces the MC to confront the family he ran from a few years prior. All of this sounds super angst ridden and is why I waited so liking to listen to it. But in reality it was pretty light hearted and had lots of laughs along the way. It’s as much about family as it is the main couple. I expected to dislike it but was really happy with it. :). I mean clearly, I rarely give above 3 stars so that says something right there. :) ( )
