'Edwards creates amazing fantasy worlds that the reader becomes completely engrossed in' (Goodreads) The bayou is burning, the battle is just beginning - and Luce Boudreau is smack in the middle of no-man's land . . . Life as a cop in Canton Town, Mississippi, is never dull - particularly when hiding deep within you is a demon bent on the apocalypse. Luce is doing her best to pretend her two worlds aren't crashing into each other, but what should be a routine arson investigation takes a shocking turn when Luce discovers a link between the suspects and her own dark secrets. There's no turning back, even though her search for the truth threatens to burn her old life down around her. Lines are being drawn in a war Luce barely understands, and she just might be on the wrong side of them. Now she must embrace her powerful destiny, or the ones she loves most will pay the ultimate price. Book Two in the powerfully addictive fantasy series The Foundling, perfect for fans of Ilona Andrews, Jenn Stark and Helen Harper What readers are saying about Hailey Edwards: 'A fantasy of a five-star read!' Amazon reviewer 'This is a well written and entertaining story, full of humour and suspense, that I found to be a terrific read.' 'A fast-moving journey filled with the unexpected.' (RT Book Reviews) 'Hailey Edwards has exceeded all expectations.' (Goodreads) 'Well-plotted fantasy with intriguing characters, heart-pounding action, suspenseful intrigue and subtle romance. (RT Book Reviews) 'Edwards has this way of writing that makes you feel like the narrator is talking to you and that you're old friends.' (Goodreads) 'The world building is fresh . . . The characters are well-drawn and easy to root for. And the romance really hits the spot. '(Red Hot Books) 'One of the most interesting books i have read in a long time, it starts off pretty normal but when the shocks start coming they don't stop and Luce ends up feeling from one revelation after another.' Amazon reviewer 'One aspect of her writing I enjoy is her ability to take the mundane and with a few changes, turn it into something unique and unexpected. She builds dynamic character bases, using common mythology but takes it one step further using previously unseen species or imbibing currently known species with skills and know how that offers readers something new in the paranormal world.' This has some interesting pieces about family and found family and the limits they have when you lie or withhold information. Luce has to make some very hard decisions in this story and they affect her life. She also has to deal with a lot of complicated bits and pieces that change how she feels about all the different new people in her life and has to deal with her adopted father and his issues.
She's having to leave a lot of her known past behind and launch herself into a new world and it's complicated and messy and possibly she as she knows herself won't survive.
I liked it, there's not a lot of romance here, much slow burning going on but a good read, I'm curious as to what's happening next. ( )

This one starts not long after the first book concludes.
Luce while still in the dark on some things is now awake when it comes to who and what she once was and what is lurking underneath beneath this new skin of hers.
She is wholly determined to try and keep the evil alter-ego underneath leashed and contained.
She has also been recruited to work for the NSB a coalition aimed at containing the Charun threat.
So this one is of a much slower pace than its predecessor: it still has plenty of action but Bone Driven takes its time to build up the personal relationships especially that of Luce's coterie who are all nervously watching and waiting almost expecting Conquest herself to burst forth from Luce's skin at any given time.
They all to a man want Luce to stay but are not yet convinced that it is yet a given.
Also if you are looking for romance with this series this is still on the back-burner there are inklings of that finer emotion with the delicious Cole but this is as yet still primarily plot-driven and the emphasis is more on the unfolding upcoming battle.
There are also new players added to the pot here further mixing things up.
Luce's new partner Wu is a mystery who seems overly invested and fascinated by her much to the annoyance of cole.
He definitely has some sort of hidden agenda when it comes to Luce which was further compounded by that oh so interesting epilogue and the Ezra connection.
Just who and what is he? and while I am pondering that particular question another that is bugging me just what is Miller hiding beneath his skin I am so dying to discover the answer to this.
There are also new threats on the horizon and before Luce moves onto pastures new she and Rixton are up to there necks with a new local case.
The first book in this series had the slight edge for me but this was still bloody fantastic reading.
A slow start but the second half of this more than made up for that and that epilogue raised even more questions.
Do yourself a favour and pick-up book one this really is an addictive read that is fast becoming a firm favourite with me.

I am heartbroken. Luce is heartbroken. People I cannot name for fear of spoiling you are heartbroken. This book was a knife to the heart and it was still so good.

Luce knows some secrets now and she's prepared for some things. But she isn't prepared for any of this. Too bad the only thing she can do is keep going and do her best. Good thing she has people who support her in that.

As with the first book this book had one hell of an epilogue that had me screaming for answers to the new questions it posed. And this book continues the tradition of tossing tropes on their head until they form something new. It lived up to the excellence of the first book and I'm so much looking forward to the next.

For Aunt Barbara, who showed me life is better with a book in my hand (and romance on the pages).

She taught me how to love a child with my whole heart and what it means to be family. I wouldn't be the person I am today without her support. Love you, Bob!
