This book was a retelling of the folktale snow white. This was originally put into print by the Grimms and two people rewrote it and added illustrations. This is a retelling of an original story and instead of only Snow White, there is a sister called rose red. There is no poison apple and awakening with a kiss but instead, there is an evil dwarf and a kind bear who turns into a prince. This book would be a good modern version of a classic fairy tale that most people know. I would use this to talk about different forms of illustrations as the pictures and paintings in the book are breathtaking. I could also use this to talk about changing classic stories and having the children find a folktale and rewrite the ending. ( )

The story of Snow White is well know thanks to Walt Disney but the story of her sister, Rose Red, is unknown to most youth today. In this retelling the story of the cursed bear that an evil dwarf changed from a prince into a bear then stole his treasure is beautifully wrote and illustrated in a modern and entertaining manner. The ungrateful dwarf is helped three times by the sisters and never thanked but instead yelled at. On the final encounter the dwarf actually threatens them for gazing at his treasure and comes at them with a stick to hurt them. The sisters yell and the bear comes and kills the bear and thus breaks the evil dwarfs curse and the sisters see him for the prince he is.

The story is a traditional fairy tale from the Brother's Grimm collection that would be great to read when studying them or reading another version of Snow White to come the stories. It's got a moral of what goes around, comes around ( )
