This is a great series to introduce children to various biomes, using examples found in North America. The layouts are visually appealing and include informational sidebars, which don't distract from the main text. The narrative is well-written, engaging, and full of sensory details, which makes it an excellent book to read aloud.

A Walk in the Desert tells about the plants and animals found on the Sonoran desert. The book describes some other types of deserts, but concentrates on the Sonoran. It is illustrated with pictures. On each page are images of paper clipped notes, as though the reader is also cataloging the desert. The animal pictures are very clear and detailed. ( )
