I travelled through Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo waaay back in 1998 with this trusty Rough Guide as my companion. The highlight was Borneo and this guide helped me get around the world's third biggest island without too many difficulties (an orang-utan stole my water bottle but I can't blame the guide book for that).

My copy is very water damaged and its front cover is missing; I got caught in a huge storm while literally standing on the equator, just outside Pontianak, Kalimantan. I took that as amen of some kind and got the hell out of Indonesia, destination Sabah. ( )

I found this a very useful guide in preparing for my trip to Malaysia, and I carried it around in my bag and referred to it frequently. It's very detailed, well-organized geographically and areas of interest, and I appreciated the opinions given in the book about what places were a must-see and where I might be disappointed. ( )
