Friedrich Nietzsche is one of the most influential thinkers of the past 150 years and On the Genealogy of Morality (1887) is his most important work on ethics and politics. A polemical contribution to moral and political theory, it offers a critique of moral values and traces the historical evolution of concepts such as guilt, conscience, responsibility, law and justice. First published in 1994, and revised in 2006, the third edition of this best-selling, concise introduction and translation has been revised and updated throughout, to take account of recent scholarship. Featuring an expanded introduction, an updated bibliography and a guide to further reading, the third edition also includes timelines and biographical synopses. The Cambridge Texts in the History of Political Thought edition of Nietzsche's major work is an essential resource for both undergraduate and graduate courses on Nietzsche, the history of philosophy, continental philosophy, history of political thought and ethics.… (meer)

In this brief polemic, Nietzsche asserts that black people (he used a different term), the poor, and animals can't feel pain as acutely as the rest of us, that race-mixing can cause major problems in society, that a blonde Aryan race lived in Edenic innocence before resentful Jews came along to trick everyone into feeling guilty about rape and violence, and that things used to be much better back before the German bloodline was corrupted.

I don't know if Nietzsche would have liked the Nazis. But it's easy to see why the Nazis liked Nietzsche.

I'm not saying there's no value in reading Nietzsche, or that anyone who likes his ideas is an anti-Semite. He is a brilliant writer, but everytime I'd start to follow him through an idea, another reason to remember gas chambers would pop up within a few pages. The horrific legacy of Nietzsche's anti-equality beliefs are blocking my view of his virtues. ( )

If you liked what he did to God, you'll love Nietzsche's take on morality. The rich invented "good" and "bad" because they never suffered, and the poor and downtrodden invented "good" and "evil" because they needed a concept for the really horrible things that happened to them. Nietzche tries to unscientifically trace the evolution of morality. Reall fun. ( )
