Following the success of his run on Supreme, acclaimed comics writer Alan Moore (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell) was given the opportunity to write a mini-series featuring an entire superhero universe. The results were just as unpredictable, and ingenious, as his work on his landmark work, Watchmen. An indispensable addition to the library of any Alan Moore fan, and an excellent introduction to his inimitable style for the uninitiated. Full-colour illustrations throughout.… (meer)

This was, I believe, meant to be the start of a whole new comic company for Rob Liefeld using existing characters from his Image days (primarily Youngblood), as well as a few characters he believed he had the rights to, which he did not (The Fighting American, a Captain America like character from back in the day that had slipped into obscurity).

Anyway, Judgment Day was meant as the start of something new, and in that respects it works beautifully, and now that one can read the whole thing in the intended order (issue naming made the proper order confusing for some, with Omega being the second issue instead of the last). It also works as a wonderful tribute to what has come before and the change to the way comics present their world. This, of course, is all because of Alan Moore and the marvelous story he helped create for Liefeld for this Awesome Comics universe.

The Judgment Day story is a great read, and this collection also features the first of the new Youngblood stories in this post-Judgment Day world as well as a series of follow-up tales from some of the minor characters featured in Judgment Day, all by means of kicking off the Awesome Comics Universe that never managed to make it off the ground. Still, I'm glad at least this much of it exists. ( )
