Arthurian lit has long been one of my favorite genres, so I really enjoyed the opportunity to read this. I liked that almost none of the stories focused on the oft-retold Matter of Britain, but rather focused on adjacent tales within that world. Or better yet, those that spun the story into alternate timelines altogether. Many of the stories are incredibly queer, which also made my heart happy. I loved the opening poem by Jane Yolen and the story of the wyrm in modern-day New York city. Some of the stories were a little to "open-door" in the romance descriptions for my normal reading taste. A great collection of Aurthurian tales by well known authors that I highly recommend to any fantasy reader. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This is a good read for anyone who is interested in stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The stories honour the longstanding traditions of these tales while sometimes adding a modern twist.
I found this collection of stories and two poems to be hard slogging at points and delightful in others. Jane Yolen’s introductory poem was excellent, as were the modern-day tale of the wyrm, a fleshing out of The Lady of Shallot, and the concluding story about the wolf. It was interesting to see the themes of loyalty and duty explored over time, along with self-sacrifice and disillusionment. There was too much sexuality for my tastes in some of the stories. Prijzen
