These graphic novel additions to the Grant/Nightingale world continue to be consistently good. It was fun to see Abigail in action in this installment. ( ) This is pretty average for the Rivers of London comics. It’s good fun, with a kind of kooky story and over-the-top villains, and nods to both the greater ‘verse and to British lore. Most of the action is Abigail and Guleed, who get to be awesome in the foreground instead of the background for once. The ransom plot and the villains’ master plan are also somewhat different from the norm, though it’s about where my suspension of disbelief seems to tap out for this series. The obsession just felt fictional, y’know? It’s a pretty fast read and even though I largely enjoyed it and liked that Aaronvitch is still pulling from all over for his stories, it still felt reasonably predictable. Like, nobody was really in danger, the folks at the Folly would save the day if the women didn’t get there first, and at least one of the reveals wasn’t. I’ve read more exciting volumes, but I’ve also read weaker. I do hope we see the foxes and that bit of the world again, though. That’s got some good potential. Warnings: Kidnapping and imprisonment of humans and animals. Evil Russians and British aristocrats. Allusions to fox hunting. Attempted murder. 6/10 geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

CSI meets Harry Potter in this fantastic new graphic novel from Ben Aaronovitch, writer of the bestselling Rivers of London supernatural police procedural crime novel series! Vengeful Russian mobsters are looking to hire members of London's own more-then-natural underworld to bring bloody retribution down on the witch Varvara. However, the ex-Soviet sorcerer is under the protective wing of London's own wizarding cop, Peter Grant (now a proper detective and everything), and to get the attention of Grant and his colleagues, the the daughter of a prominent Russian oligarch is kidnapped by parties unknown but possibly fox-like. What makes it worse is that Peter is going to have to leave his beloved London and *gasp* go out into the countryside! And when there's trees and fields and wildlife involved, things never end well... Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
