This is a story of Jews leaving Russia during Hanukkah and escaping to Palestine. Written for children 5 to 8 years old.

this book is about 2 boys trying to escape russia during WWII. jews were being throw out of their homes, and families torn apart. these 2 boys got enough money from a brother in palistine to go to him and avoid the persecution in russia. for their journey, their mother gives them a small lamp with just enough oil for one night. the boys traval by cart, train, and wait in the cold at the british embassy. the little lamp inspires them to remember hannakah and how the jewish ppl thank God. the little lamp is taken as payment when a ship captain refuses passage for both brothers, and so they trade the lamp for an extra seat. i personally didnt like the way this book was written. it seemed choppy and un interesting. im sure it can can help in lessons involving different cultures and how it was back in the times of war in europe. maybe children could research their own family history, and discover new things about their heritage.
