I personally enjoyed this book very much. Much of what we believe about Christopher Columbus and his discovery of America is very different from the actual account so reading more of the details is very interesting. I think it is very important for students to have a clearer understanding of our American history and how our country was both discovered and founded.
Classroom Extension:
1. This would be a great book to include in a study on American History having the students plot the course that Columbus is believed to have traveled and the route he had originally planned to take. Students can learn alot about geography by following his journey.
2. This would also be a great book to include in a study on American Heroes even though Columbus was an accidental hero. It teaches students that sometimes you may not find what you are looking for but what you find can be just as amazing.
