While I like a light fluffy read, there was just something about the almost too high school setting in this that turned me off within the first few chapters. I liked that Nic had to deal with stuff that most teenagers don't; asking her dad to help her save her house. But the whole prom dress thing was a little too much for me. I wouldn't have kept the dress like Nic did, especially after the way Rascal dumped her as his prom date.
The almost childlike tension between Nic and her best friend Alison's brother Jared, was boring and so predictable. Of course she only saw him as an older brother, but you just knew that he felt different and that eventually she would see that. And then you insert Rascal ( the original dumper in the story), of course he has a thing for Nic too, now that is stuck up girlfriend is back and he thinks that Nic may be an easy conquest.
And as predicted Alison, has an issue with her best friend dating her brother, but it is quickly resolved; almost within the same chapter ( not very likely in the real world). Though the book leaves alot to be desire for me, I am sure that others will enjoy the light way that Ferraro writes and the way that Nic deals with the high school drama. This wouldn't be a book that I would hand to a young teen as it does involve sexual tension, but it also deals with a few things that may make sense to an older teen in today's world ( )

I didn't go to the prom. I didn't go to the Senior Ball either, or the Homecoming Dance or any of the others. In fact, high school is a time best forgotten as far as I'm concerned. Middle school was much more fun. I went to every dance. College, well, what happens in college, stays in college. But, I have chaperoned three proms in my life, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with them.

Finding that one special dress can be big deal. Sometimes it's more important than finding a date. Of course without a date, the dress stays in the closet.

That's what happened to Nicolette Antonovich. Two days before the prom, the hottest guy in school dropped her. Turns out he was just asking her to make his ex-girlfriend jealous. It worked. He took her to the prom and Nicolette got stuck at home with her perfect dress. This all happened before the novel begins. The novel is a comic look at what happens over the next year. Nicolette makes her way through Junior year, tries to reconnect with her estranged father, gets to know her new sister, thinks she might just have a chance with the hottest guy in school after all and finds her best friend's older brother is not just some dork who drives them to the mall, but a pretty terrific guy.

Top Ten Uses for and Unworn Prom Dress probably qualifies as junior chick-lit since it's written for the young adult set. (I would comfortably recommend it to girls in grades 7 through 10, maybe 11.) But I found it rose above its genre. It's got a touching story to tell, (several of them in fact,) a positive outlook on high school life, a fun sense of wit, good characters and an entertaining plot. It's a book that looks like it's just going to be a fun read, but turns out to have something real to say in the end. And it's very well written to boot. I'd like to see more books like it. ( )

Typical chick lit with likable characters. An easy and fun read...perfect for the beach. I think my high school girls will really like this book. The pink cover pretty much guarantees that a guy won't read it! ( )

This book is all about a lonely girl who tries to get a guy she likes. I think that is the most common thing in teens girls books. Usually a girl who no one likes who tries to get the cutest guy but then he would probably have a girlfriend who is the hottest girl in school. Thats how it usually goes. This is kinda the same but very mysterious. I would reccomend this book to teenage girls but only from the age of 14-16 maybe. 12 and 13 is to young. Well, i dont even remeber if i read these kinds of books in 6th or 7th grade.
