As a reader (reading again) I forgot how much this story pulled me in throughout the journey... that it activated me...and I'm reminded it's fiction! 5 stars remain ( ) I love Gary Furlong's voice, the reader of this one. He has done all of Jay Hogan's books that I have listened to thus far, and he could read to me all day if he wants. I liked the story, but I had some problems with it also. The book is full of the things that I don't particularly care for in any genera.... especially romances, no matter if they are M/M, or M/F. I have no patience with characters that can't seem to get their act together and just let something grow or even admit that there even is something to grow. I don't like long separations and especially characters that won't just say to one another, "Let's talk about it and see if we can't work it out". These two, Michael and Josh, just let life run over them and nearly completely past them. Michael was willing to take homophobic comments from his parents with a grit of his teeth and a grain of salt. I felt sorry for Josh's daughter and even his dog. They were caught in the middle of Josh and his parents, and no one was listening to the kid saying she wanted no part of listening to her grandparents run down her dad. It did level out and the pros outweighed the cons in the end. It eventually became a beautifully written love story even if it does contain all of the mistakes people can make that can grow into a two-headed monster, by not talking about what's bothering them, what they're uncertain about, and what they really want with, and for. one another. There was a criminal element side story going on, Josh is a cop... that adds to the plot, but it was so spaced out that I almost forgot it was there until something bad nearly happened. DNF at 72%. Spoilers ahead. I'd been trying to give this one a fair chance, and it had been fine, mostly. Until bigoted mom AND DAUGHTER WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER barge into Josh's bedroom when Michael's there. Josh is a grown-ass adult. And then, Josh lies to his daughter, hurting Michael. Really. Well. He sucks as a parent and a partner and I'm done. Audio. This is a suspense/crime drama. The MCs get off to a rocky start and seem unsuited, but there is undeniable chemistry between them. Josh is a single dad, looking for a long term relationship, but with trust issues because his last partner cheated on him. Unfortunately Michael reminds him of his last partner. Michael is quite a caustic character who takes some getting used to. He's also a casual relationship only type of guy. There's a great deal of UST as they both try to deny their attraction. The chemistry is ramped up by the denial, so things are explosive once they finally get together. The narrator does sexy and sarcastic to perfection. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Auckland Med (1)
Michael: Two years ago, I made a mistake, a big one. Then I added a couple more just for good measure. I screwed up my life, but I survived. Now I have the opportunity for a fresh start. Two years in NZ. Away from the LA gossip, a chance to breathe, to rebuild my life. But I'm taking a new set of rules with me. I don't do relationships. I don't do commitment. I don't do white picket fences. And I especially don't do arrogant, holier-than-thou, smoking hot K9 officers who walk into my ER and rock my world. Josh: One thing for certain, Dr. Michael Oliver is an arrogant, untrustworthy player, and I barely survived the last one of those. He might be gorgeous, but my daughter takes number one priority. I won't risk her being hurt, again. I'm a solo dad, a K9 cop and a son to pain-in-the-arse parents. I don't have time for games. I don't have time for taking chances. I don't have time for more complications in my life. And I sure as hell don't have time for the infuriating Dr. Michael Oliver, however damn sexy he is. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
