These old Shadows anthologies beat the pants off much of the current “Best New Horror” fare. I don’t know if it’s because the editors were better or they just had better fare to pick through. There are a couple of dated clunkers but overall the stories are good with a couple of outstanding ones. There are a few really weird or strange stories here that seem more effective because they weren’t so self-consciously trying to be weird. ( ) 2019 I re-read Overnight by Lou Fisher still a 4* A little like the movie The Purge and the book The Bird Box. I read this story before both of those existed but during this re-read they came to mind. ------------------ Really liked: Leanne Frahm - On the Turn which I now own in a different book Janet Fox - The Skins You Love to Touch which I own in a different book now. Lou Fisher's was pretty good too. ~ The Jigsaw Girl by Stephen Gallagher 2* ~ The Lesson by Christopher Browne 2* ~ On the Turn by Leanne Frahm 5* ~ Moving Night by Nancy Holder 1* ~ Sanctuary by Kim Antieau 3* ~ Now You See Me by Sheri Lee Morton 2* ~ The Fishing Village of Roebush by Leslie Alan Horvitz 3* ~ Icarus by Galad Elflandsson 1* ~ Ants by Nina Kiriki Hoffman 2* ~ Walk Home Alone by Craig Shaw Gardner 1* ~ An Ordinary Brick House by Joseph Payne Brennan 3* ~ Overnight by Lou Fisher 4* geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
