( ) If you read The Guest List then you already have a good idea of what this book is like. Old friends, isolated location, secrets, and ultimately murder. Once again the identity of the murder victim is not disclosed until well into the book. I like the way the author uses multiple viewpoints to tell the story. The different perspectives add some interest. While I enjoyed the story and stayed with it until the end, I don't think it's as well-done as The Guest List. Maybe if I had read this one first it would have felt new and fresh, but it's just too similar. A group of friends who have known each other since college get together every New Year to spend time with each other and party. This year they are staying in a remote lodge in Scotland and will have a go at hunting. In true thriller form things don't go to plan. I haven't read any books by Lucy Foley before and have had this one on my kindle for a while so thought I would give it ago. I quite enjoyed the book but did find it a typical thriller. I did find I had to keep up with who was who. Lots of characters as there are nine just in the group of friends. However the story follows mainly just a few, Emma, Miranda, Katie, Heather who is the manager of the lodge and Doug the gamekeeper. It was quite easy forgetting which character I was following at times. Thr story had the classic scenario, an isolated location, plenty of snow and a lot of characters who weren't really very nice at all. Plenty of backstories to flesh out the main tale and a who dunnit. I did enjoy the book and would definitely read another by the author. A typical thriller which didn't bring anything new. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: Everyone's invited...everyone's a suspect... For fans of Ruth Ware and Tana French, a shivery, atmospheric, page-turning novel of psychological suspense in the tradition of Agatha Christie, in which a group of old college friends are snowed in at a hunting lodge . . . and murder and mayhem ensue. All of them are friends. One of them is a killer. During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of thirtysomething friends from Oxford meet to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students ten years ago. For this vacation, they've chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands??the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30th, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year's Day, one of them is dead. The trip began innocently enough: admiring the stunning if foreboding scenery, champagne in front of a crackling fire, and reminiscences about the past. But after a decade, the weight of secret resentments has grown too heavy for the group's tenuous nostalgia to bear. Amid the boisterous revelry of New Year's Eve, the cord holding them together snaps. Now one of them is dead . . . and another of them did it. Keep your friends close, the old adage goes. But just how close is too close? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden.
