This is a beautifully illustrated collection of Snickets quotes, quips, advice, and little blurts of caution/wisdom/strangeness. I went from laughing out loud to just totally falling in love with certain quotes. The pages about not repeating yourself had me CACKLING, it just struck me as so funny for some reason! ( ) This book is a collection of quotes from works by Lemony Snicket, notably from his Series of Unfortunate Events and All the Wrong Questions books. They are humorous even without the context within which they were originally written. New illustrations are included in this collection to accompany the pithy sayings. As much as I loved the illustrations by Brett Helquist for the Series of Unfortunate Events titles, it is fun to have fresh perspectives from other artists. I particularly like a couple of renderings that feature the Baudelaire children as African-American. This is a fun collection for those who are fans of Snicket's work; for the casual reader just picking this book up at random, it probably won't work so well. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"Looking for wit, wisdom, and inspiration all within the pages of one useful book? Read Something Else. Life is a turbulent journey, fraught with confusion, heartbreak, and inconvenience. This collection of wit and wisdom from New York Times bestselling author Lemony Snicket is unlikely to help. It includes a new introduction filled with curious aphorisms, a handful of never-before-seen-or-heard quotations, and fan favorites from works over the years. These dubious offerings, collected from Snicket's books, unpublished papers, and more, have been made pleasing to the eye by illustrations, select fan art, and design flourishes."--Amazon.
