While it is okay it is nothing to write home about. the characters are not well developed and I don't know why, it just seems that instead of explaining why one sister dresses like a man and one sister doesn't tell anyone she's gay, why the brother has anger issues, why another sister has memory problems why one is antisocial(?) we are just expected to take the flaws at face value with none to little explanation. However, there is s detailed explanation why a cabin is called the French Teachers Cabin, or who the cooks at camp were before Amie. Yet we have a birthday party scene where kids leave a bounce house in terror, after Ryan goes in with his girls, that's it no explanation why, except a mention 6 chapters later that one of the girls ended up with a broken arm in the bounce house. there just could have been more development of the characters than the scenery. It was an interesting journey of the McAllister siblings search for the truth... It had quite a few surprises as I read along. As much as I wanted to play detective and solve the mystery and find out what really happened, there were some parts in the book which I felt could have been avoided. Overall an okay read. I’ll Never Tell is a well-crafted mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I’ll Never Tell follows the MacAllister family on a suspenseful journey to bring closure to an unsolved murder of a former camper that took place 20 years ago. This time of year I need books that are easy to get into and also keep me hooked and this was a great fit. I am always drawn to books that are based at a summer camp setting (I also loved The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager!) and McKenzie was able to bring me right there with the perfect description of summer camp life. The sights, smells, and memories were on point. McKenzie’s character development which sometimes is lacking for me in this thriller type fiction was really well done. Although the characters and family were quite dysfunctional, I connected with them and could see their perspectives. I enjoyed how the story jumped back and forth between present day and “that night” and the alternating narrators helped move the story along at a great pace. If you are looking for an engaging and quick summer read, this would be a great one to add to your list! I’ll Never Tell is a well-crafted mystery that kept me guessing until the end. "What happened to Amanda Holmes? Twenty years ago, she was found bludgeoned in a rowboat at the MacAllister family's Camp Macaw. No one was ever charged with the crime. Now, after their parents' sudden deaths, the MacAllister siblings return to camp to read the will and decide what to do with the prime real estate the camp occupies. Ryan needs to sell. Margaux hasn't made up her mind. Mary believes in leaving well enough alone. Kate and Liddie--the twins--have opposing views. And Sean Booth, the grounds keeper, just hopes he still has a home when all is said and done. But it's more complicated than a simple vote. The will stipulates that until they unravel the mystery of what happened to Amanda, they can't settle the estate. Any one of them could have done it, and each one is holding a piece of the puzzle. Will they work together to finally discover the truth, or will their secrets finally tear the family apart?" -- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
